I am glad to join the new forum. Thanks for keeping me updated.
I am getting ready to make a mould using moulage. I am going to cast directly from a plastergauze casting which is finished with joint compound and gesso over that.
Any advice on using moulage in this fashion would be greatly appreciated. I am worried about the moulage pulling the gesso and joint compound off of the original.
Thank you
Francine

Hi Francine
Its good to hear from you.
Moulage' is an interesting material to work with. It has taken a back street
to the popularity of alginates. But every once in a while I like to trot it
out. Moldels love the 'spa-like' feel of the warmed material on their face.
But it does not give the detail that alginates can.
In your case it shouldn't matter. Since moulage' is mostly water it can
effect the gauze and joint compound. A quick seal of a matte or eggshell
finish polyurethane spray would be my recommendation. Then you would have
now worries of wetting out the plaster guaze and possibily weakening it.
Warmest regards
Ed McCormick
