Topic Subject : Hello and an update |
|
Hi everyone, am not sure how many of us have actually transferred to the new group but thought it was about time I posted.
It's been a very busy year, and it looks like it's just getting busier. I wasn't going to tell anyone till after it happened (just incase for some reason it doesn't happen) but I've been lucky enough to be asked to do a large batch of celebrity casts for a charity event next week.
One of the nicest things about it was being able to ask my lifecasting mentor Andre Masters to join me in doing it. So it just goes to show (all you lifecasting bigwigs ;o) ) that sometimes it pays to be nice to us little people on the way up...because sometimes we do get to give something back. And it feels good to be able to do that finally. A few ALI members have been very kind and helpful to me as I've been working my way up, and of course I've got a lot of help from the forum over the last two years for which I am eternally grateful. I'm finally getting to the stage where I don't feel like a complete novice any more, although of course I have masses and masses still to learn. This year the changes in my career have given me great confidence and hope for the future of my business, although for my own personal reasons I know I have real tough and challenging times ahead in the near future.
I'm doing my first lifecasting exhibition in London in October, at the Barbican (for those who know it). It's a very good venue. There will be at least 2 other ALI lifecasters there, maybe 3. But I still think my work has a chance of standing out. The theme of the exhibition is an erotic one, and being the only woman I do feel my work seems to come from a different angle (forgive me if that sounds sexist...but it does appear to be the case).
I'm in talks with a gallery in a nearby, rather posh, town - who approached me, rather than the other way around, to see about featuring my work in an exhbition about 'the nude'. I am delighted as I have always wanted to be accepted as an artist and work more towards the day when I can do just my 'art pieces' rather than the usual baby hands etc.
I'm continuing to train up the lovely Polly, who is planning to take over the baby hands side of things as business hots up. She is a natural at lifecasting, and foxy enough to be a magician's assistant, let alone my assistant. In our shocking pink boiler suits and big girly hair I feel we make quite a funky lifecasting team. :o)
Can't remember if i've said this on the other forum, but I'm featured in a national wedding magazine this month - a whole page of pictures and a little bit of info with the web address. Surprisingly, it's only got me a couple of bookings, which makes me think I was right to hold back from magazine advertising as that would be likely to draw even less response.
Thankfully, being an article rather than an ad, it was completely free, so I have only gained from it rather than lost.
I've also started a new venture with a local portrait photographer doing bodypainting on pregnant women. I've just done 3 so far, quite comical ones for a charity calendar I'm involved with this year, but it is such good fun and I hope it will lead to more adverturous and artistic work.
Anyway, as exciting as that is, my homelife is rather poopy right now, and I may be having to find a new home and workshop in the near future, so it's not all glamour and rosiness. But having such exciting things happen with the business continues to keep me strong and hopeful for a better life for me and my son. I'll get there in the end.
Am attempting to attach my latest commissioned piece. It's not terribly exciting, but it's so darned cute I wanted to share. It's the bottom of a little 6 year old boy, who was good as gold when i cast him. His whole family came last year for hand casts, and I did bottom casts of his two little sisters last year, then this year he decided he wanted one. I couldn't 'dunk' him like i would a younger child because of the dangly undercarriage problem so i cast him laying on his tummy reading a book, using alginate and a plaster bandage mother mould. I must get around to doing one of my own little boy like this as they soon reach the age where they are too self conscious to let you. :o)
The mother is over the moon and she's going to have all their faces cast when they're a little older.
that's it for me for now. this week is going to be a majorly busy week for me, so forgive me if i am late responding to any replies. i'll get to it eventually.
love

Hi CJ and all
Glad to hear you are so busy. I am also exhibiting at the skin2 expo at the Barbican. I've never been there so i'm not sure what to expect. I'm sure it will be fun. There are so many different styles of lifecasting that i don't feel that we will be competing too much. I know that Ken Clark is going to be there too so we should be able to compare notes. It will be nice to finally meet with you.
I am working on several projects at the moment which is keeping me busy - trying to fit it all around my day job is a nightmare. I am hoping to produce a couple of pieces specifically for the show. When i get myself sorted i'll try and post them.
I'm doing a demonstration at the next Guild of Erotic Arts gala day on the 19th September so if any one is interested why not come along. Its at Beaumomnt Hall Gallery in St Albans and is a great place to go to see erotic art in all forms.
A while back i posted a question about having some form of ALI flyer to hand out at exhibitions and demos. I feel that it would be good to promote the Association and encourage people to use ALI members. Unfortunately there didn't seem to be much interest. It would (in my opinion) feature some of the varied styles of work in a similar way to the images on the opening page of the web site and show people just what is possible. However, it would require the permission of all the featured artists to allow their images to be used. Perhaps i'm the only one who thinks this is a good idea - but i do feel that we should promote our organisation at every opportunity and demonstrate a level of professionalism

Brother Richard:
It is great to hear from you, unfortunately I a very short letter, I
fell telling you that all the ROCK on your path, they are but corner
stones for a brighter artistic ends, that some times like water does, to
our mother earth, after a storm come the calm or the cleansings so every
thing will be clear after the "little rocks", then your path will be
effortless and Glorious.
I been keep my self busy, so is difficult on the way to e-mail
But definitivamente I as a student like to take the course of life
casting
So we may see us in a while

I like the idea of the print out sheet. I am happy for you to use my photos
for the Richard, if I can have a chance to vet the material first and the
right credits/contact info is given. I have all sorts...so just let me know
what you want really.
